Big 12 Breakdown 2/27/19

The Big 12 might be the conference I'm most excited to watch down the stretch, as they have storylines aplenty, with their title still up in the air and Kansas in danger of not winning it for the first time since before Facebook was a month old. There are also multiple teams firmly on the bubble, so they are currently playing for their seasons. Almost every game has major implications, so it will be fascinating to watch. If you want my thoughts before next week, be sure to follow me on Twitter @ThreePointRange, where I'll be covering a lot of Big 12 action as it happens. Thoughts - There's basically just one big thought this week, and it's all about the conference title race. I have no idea who is going to win it or if anyone wants to win it to be frank. Anyone who has been reading me for a while knows that I've been a huge Iowa State fan all season, but god damn they have just let me down too many times. Following that resounding win over Kansas State where they

ACC Breakdown 2/26/18

The ACC regular season is winding down, but there are still plenty of storylines to track. Zion Williamson and Justin Robinson have pretty significant injuries, North Carolina and Florida State are hot, there are a few teams still playing for their tournament lives, and Louisville looks like a completely different team right now. I have the full breakdown of the conference now and next week, and I'm going to try and get a conference tournament preview out as well. Be sure to check back next week and follow me on Twitter @ThreePointRange for updates on the ACC as March continues to approach. Thoughts - The big story from the ACC this past week was Zion Williamson's injury. I'm basically a week late, but here's my take: it's bad for Duke. I know, it's a hot take, but losing the National Player of the Year frontrunner will hurt your on court product. There have been a lot of people chiming in on whether or not he should play the rest of the season. I think he sh

Top 25 Breakdown 2/25/19

We draw another week closer to Selection Sunday, so these rankings hold as much weight as ever as we look at which team are threats to win it all and which are going to go out with a whimper. I have to apologize once again for my lack of activity, I had a lot more schoolwork than anticipated and also had to deal with some things in my personal life. However, I will be back with breakdowns of every conference this week. I also have some exciting stuff planned as we get closer to the tournament, so be sure to check back often. As always, follow me on Twitter @ThreePontRange and enjoy your week. Top 25 1. ACC Breakdown 2/19/19

I'm really excited to be back and doing conference breakdowns after taking last week off due to a busy school load. I still kept an eye on all things college basketball, and I've got a lot of stuff to say from the past two weeks, and I'm excited to share a lot of my thoughts from the past week. On a personal note that fits really well here, I'll be at two massive games at the Carrier Dome this week when Syracuse plays Louisville and then get to see College GameDay on Saturday prior to Syracuse beating Duke, so if you want me to tell Jay Williams something, just let me know. As always, be sure to follow me on Twitter @ThreePointRange where I'll have live coverage of that from the student's section. And without further ado, here's what I saw with the ACC. Thoughts - After starting conference play 1-4, Florida State is playing great basketball again. They are now riding a 7 game winning streak, really seizing their opportunities against the weaker portion of

Top 25 Breakdown 2/18/19

There was a lot more movement near the top this week after some big time clashes this week, and I have a lot of thoughts after taking last week off for school stuff, so be sure to read my notes and all the rest of my conference breakdowns this week. I thought I had a pretty good feel for where a lot of teams were going to settle at this point, but I feel like I was way off on some teams, and now I'm reconsidered some things I previously took as fact. On another note, I may miss out on some of this Saturday's games since I will be in attendance to see Duke lose for a second time to Syracuse and given College GameDay will be there, it's an all day type event. Maybe I can win 19k this week , since I'm cash from deep. Not to brag, but I average 6.7 points a game and shoot 54.5% from three in Division 7 of the Syracuse Intramural Basketball B League. Coach Boeheim has yet to respond to my calls about being a bench shooter. Anyways, I always love to talk about my rankings on

Top 25 Breakdown 2/11/19

With another week in the books, we are slowly moving towards Selection Sunday, with 5 weeks remaining until the big day. We are really starting to get a good feel for who the elites in college basketball are, and what teams could be in trouble of getting upset early. There's been a lot of volatility in the Top 25 throughout the season, and this week they stayed a little more consistent, although there is a new top dog and some other teams are surging while others are falling, but for the most part, there weren't a ton of major changes. I'm always talking college basketball on Twitter @ThreePointRange, so be sure to follow me there, and enjoy the week ahead in hoops. Top 25 1. Duke (2) Record: 21-2, 9-1 Last Week: W 80-55 vs Boston College, W 81-71 @ Virginia This Week: 2/12 @ Louisville, 2/16 vs North Carolina State 2. Big East Breakdown 2/10/19

Thoughts - Butler is a really interesting team to watch. I really like the Bulldogs, and their roster is more talented than their record would indicate. They've got Kamar Baldwin, one of the top scorers in the conference, Jordan Tucker, a versatile forward and Duke transfer, two sharpshooters in Paul Jorgensen and Sean McDermott, and a solid group of role players. However, they've struggled to win games consistently, seemingly taking a step back for every one they take forward. They have won two straight games now, beating Seton Hall and Georgetown, but that comes on the heels of a three game losing streak when they missed huge opportunities to get wins over Marquette and Villanova at home or Creighton on the road. This week, they take on St. John's on the road and DePaul at home. They can't suffer a letdown from their winning streak as they look to continue to build their tournament resume. - Xavier has been one of the most disappointing teams in the nation for me t

SEC Breakdown 2/9/19

The SEC was talked about as the best conference in college basketball in the preseason, but I don't think they've lived up to that billing. They have a pretty small tournament tournament contingent at the moment, and you could make a real argument that there are only 7 tournament teams in the conference at the moment despite some teams that should be doing much better. Still, the top of the conference is absolutely elite, and I'm very high on some of the teams here. Be sure to follow me on Twitter @ThreePointRange if you want more college basketball in your feed, and enjoy a fun Saturday of college basketball. Thoughts - LSU is 8-1 in the SEC and living up to the preseason hype that many, including myself, had for them. I'm a big fan of this Tigers' team, with point guard Tremont Waters finding his star form from last season, and their highly touted freshman class, led by Naz Reid, is playing very well. They are a high octane team that plays at a very fast pace,
