ACC Breakdown 1/22/18

Thoughts - I'll get into this a little more later on, but I'm a little worried about Virginia Tech. They got murdered by in-state rivals Virginia and North Carolina. I get that both those teams are good, but a 22 point loss and a is certainly worrisome. They are no doubt an elite offensive team, but I have questions about their defense on the whole, Virginia isn't a team that scores 81 points all that often, they often looked lost against UNC, and they haven't exactly faced a gauntlet this year. Their schedule this week features a matchup with Syracuse, which will be a very intriguing test for the Hokies. If they lose that one, it might just be time to panic in Blacksburg. - I mentioned this in my Top 25 Breakdown yesterday, but come on NC State. I love you guys! I've been on you for a while and you were making me look smart, but then you go and lose to Wake Forest. Really? They haven't looked convincing at all in ACC play, with wins by 5,6, and 4 in their th...

ACC Breakdown 1/15/19

I'm trying a bit of a different format, as I'm back at school and don't have as much time as I would like to work on these posts, although I'm trying to be more active on Twitter, @ThreePointRange, to cover for that. I'm normally on there discussing all things college basketball, as well as taking questions for the 3 Questions segment. Thanks as always for reading, and enjoy. Thoughts - I have made my love for North Carolina State known on more than one occasion. They are really fun to watch play, they have a lot of talent, all of the talent fits Kevin Keatts' system, and Keatts is a very good coach. They just aren't quite there yet. They are obviously a very good team, but they aren't quite at the elite level just yet. They played with North Carolina, and Wisconsin earlier in the season, but just couldn't finish it off, and caught Auburn in the midst of a rough patch and watched as the Tigers committed 25 turnovers. They also had close calls agai...

ACC Breakdown 1/15/19: Syracuse Edition

SO HOW ABOUT THOSE SYRACUSE ORANGE?!?!?!?!?! They went into Cameron Indoor, ands beat the Duke Blue Devils 95-91. Full disclosure: I am a Syracuse student and fan, so I am a little biased, and I attempt to not let that bias come through when I write anything on my blog. But today isn't one of those days. I've thought about nothing but this game since it ended, and I am going to just go on a sort of weird rant in this post. The actual ACC Breakdown will be out later today. First off, how good was Pascal Chukwu? This was by far his best game, as he finished with 10 points and 18 rebounds, 9 of which came on the offensive end, and also recorded 3 blocks. He played basically all of the second half and was impressive down the stretch, including making 2 big free throws. In the first half, it wads all Elijah Hughes. 18 of his 20 points came before the half, including an absurd 75 foot shot to beat the halftime buzzer. He's been great shooting the ball recently, and it seemed he h...

Top 25 Breakdown 1/14/18

Conference play is still in its infancy, but it feels like we are starting to get a better feel for a lot of teams. I'm beginning to solidify some of my thoughts on where teams should be ranked, but man, teams just keep losing games they should win and it makes this very hard. Conference play is so tough, especially on the road, so it really does give a lot of very confusing results. I think some teams are overperforming at the moment, and some aren't playing up to their talent level, but it's getting to the point t where talent and potential aren't enough to justify a spot in the rankings. As always, if you disagree or want to discuss the rankings, feel free to do so on Twitter @ ThreePointRange, and enjoy the next week in college basketball. Top 25 1. Duke (1) Record:14-1, 3-0 Last Week: W 87-65 @ Wake Forest, W 80-78 @ Florida State This Week: 1/14 vs Syracuse, 1/19 vs Virginia 2. Michigan (2) Record: 17-0, 6-0 Last Week: W 74-63 @ Illinois, W 80-60 vs Nort...

Big 12 Breakdown 1/9/19

As I said in my last Big 12 breakdown, this is the most competitive conference in the country and that's been proven out so far this year. We've seen multiple upsets thus far and very few blowouts, so you know every game is going to be tough. It's also very hard to win on the road in this conference, and while it may not always be pretty, you're going to see a lot of close games in the conference. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the Big 12 on Twitter @ThreePointRange on Twitter, and I'm always open to taking your questions, and they may even be featured in the 3 Questions segment. Power Rankings 1. Texas Tech (2) Record:  14-1, 3-0 My Thoughts:  Texas Tech has been better than anyone expected this year, and that is almost solely on their defense being ridiculously good and the play of Jarrett Culver, who is possibly the frontrunner for Big 12 Player of the Year. However, what has been flying under the radar is their offense is kind of bad. It's border...

ACC Breakdown 1/8/19

After the fist week of games, I'm back with the ACC Power Rankings. There weren't a ton of momentous games or upsets, but it's nice to have ACC play back. It's always one of my favorite conferences to watch thanks to all of the great teams. If you want to discuss anything in here with my, hit my up on Twitter @ThreePointRange. Power Rankings 1. Duke (1) Record:  12-1, 1-0 My Thoughts:  Duke has obviously been excellent so far. The Blue Devils sit at 12-1 and are fresh off a 19 point victory over Clemson. Things seem to be going swimmingly for Coach K, but I think there is a small issues that hasn't been talked about enough. That is that Cam Reddish has been bad. One of the star studded freshmen trio and the one that people were saying had the highest ceiling entering the season, Cam has struggled to fit in. With Tre Jones, RJ Barrett, and Zion Williamson spending most of the time with the ball in their hands, Reddish has essentially been made into a spot up sho...
