Thoughts on the Second Weekend

It was yet another great weekend in the NCAA Tournament, and the Final Four is set, with Loyola-Chicago, Michigan, Villanova, and Kansas set to battle it out in San Antonio. Here are my thoughts following the Sweet Sixteen and Elite Eight. 1. Game of the Sweet Sixteen Thus far, the best game of the tournament in my opinion is Villanova vs West Virginia. It was an exciting back and forth affair for most of the game, and it was a great matchup of two top teams. Villanova led by two at the half, but they had struggled against the West Virginia pressure for most of the half. Donte DiVincenzo and Mikal Bridges both looked a little scared because of the on-ball pressure. West Virginia started the second half strong, opening on a 18-10 run in the first 10 minutes of the half. Nova answred with a 11-0 run of their own, and they never looked back. They continued to tack on and finally began making threes, eventually winning 90-78. This game will stick with me for a while for the moments. The

Thoughts on Coaching Changes

As coaches switch teams this off season, I'll give my thoughts on the moves for some of the bigger coaches and schools. I'll continue to update this as more coaches switch teams. Please feel free to leave your thoughts on these changes or coaches you would like your favorite team to higher. 1. Kermit Davis to Mississippi What an excellent hire for the Rebels. Davis is an experienced coach and he has been coaching since the late 1980s. He had been at Middle Tennessee State since 2002-03, and has been wildly successful recently. Since 2009-10, when the Blue Raiders were in the Sun Belt Conference, he has won 6 regular season conference championships and made 3 NCAA tournaments. They didn't miss a beat when moving to Conference-USA, winning the championship in their first year. They made the tournament each of the two seasons before this, and won their regular season title and were ranked in the AP poll this season. He got some excellent recruits at a smaller program, bring

Thoughts on the First Weekend

Well, what a tournament this has been already. My bracket started strong, I only had two losses on the first day, but then nine on Friday and it just got worse from there. It was a rough one, but the madness has been incredible and bracket be damned I'll take some incredible games and shocking upsets over winning my bracket pool. I've got some thoughts on the tournament thus far, and I'd figured that I would share them here. One thing first, my computer just got fixed today, so I was unable to release my previews for all the regions. You'll probably pick up on my thoughts through this post and others, but I will say my Final Four is Cincinnati, North Carolina, Texas Tech, and Kansas, with the Jayhawks defeating the Bearcats in the final, so that isn't looking great. But without further ado, let's get into my thoughts. 1. The tournament started off with a bang The first game of the tournament was a fun one, with Rhode Island knocking off Trae Young and Oklahoma

First Four Preview

The tournament is finally here! This has been an exciting season full of upsets, stars players, FBI investigations, and everything in between. Most bracket pools close on Thursday, when casual fans start to take interest, but there are two games on both Tuesday and Wednesday night for you to enjoy. For those wondering, I think the committee missed on Syracuse over USC, but in the end the bracket looks good, and there are plenty of excellent matchups to get excited for, including the First Four in Dayton, which is what I’m here to breakdown. Radford vs LIU-Brooklyn The Skinny This game could be a microcosm of the entire tournament, as it features a classic battle of offense versus defense. The Higlanders of Radford are one of the nation’s best defensive teams, holidng their opponents to just 64.4 points per game, the 14th lowest total in the nation. Meanwhile, LIU has a high powered offense, averaging 77.5 points per game on the season. Both teams use a press, but while the Blackbir

Introductions

Hello there, and welcome to Three Point Range, a blog about college basketball. I’m a huge fan of the sport and wanted to share my thoughts with the world. I know it’s late in the season, but I finally have the time to begin and continually update a blog. This blog will heavily feature my own thoughts, analysis, and bias, and it is highly possible I will be wrong a majority of the time. As for myself, I am a shooter by nature, and that’s about all I do well on the court, which is why I’m writing about college basketball instead of playing. This reflects in teams that I favor, as the better they shoot, the more I like them. I am a fan of the Michigan Wolverines, and you may see that reflected in my analysis. For the rest of this season, I plan on giving my thoughts on the field of 68 and then giving my predictions for the tournament. I’ll give round-by-round recaps of all the tournament games and then reactions to any offseason news. During the next season and beyond, I will look to giv
